We dropped off 50 meals for all shifts working for Department of St. Charles Emergency Communications located at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 1400 TR Hughes. Emergency Communications Dispatchers take the 911 calls, evaluate the situation and determine the right level of response for each call. First Responders arriving on the scene of an emergency got there because of the work of these professionals.
The Department of Emergency Communications is led by Mr. Jeff Smith. He directs an organization of about 44 dispatcher plus Administrative staff. They work around clock and last year handled about 160,000 calls per year. About 100,000 of those calls were for Law Enforcement and the remaining 60,000 calls for Fire & EMS. Spread those calls out evenly and it’s about 440 calls a day. The Department of Emergency Communications processes and dispatches emergency calls for all Fire and EMS agencies within St. Charles County and also St. Charles County Police, Sheriff’s and Corrections Departments.
Besides dispatching services, Emergency Communications also maintains and supports the digital radio system and the Next Generation 911 phone system, both of which are used by all police, fire, EMS and public works departments within the county. The Department’s Radio and Technology Division maintains and supports the digital radio system and 12 transmitter tower sites located within St. Charles County.
